Four........,
Alica ushered Brice and Roy out of the treatment room and into the doctor's lounge to await word of Johnny's condition.
Roy grabbed a cup to fill with coffee, before turning it and throwing it against the wall, startling Alica and Brice. "Dammit, Johnny," he yelled, before sinking down onto the couch, covering his face with hands.
Alica looked to Brice, motioning him to say something.
Brice looked at the stricken paramedic and was amazed to find himself at a loss of how to deal with this display of raw emotion. "Umm, Roy, you know Johnny, he's been through tougher situations than this and came out just fine," his words trailed off, not knowing what more to say that Roy didn't already know himself, making it seem unessential for him to continue.
Alica looked at Brice with exasperation. She walked over and sat down next to Roy and put her hand on his arm, "Roy, look I don't know you or Johnny very well, but Dr. Brackett and Dr. Early are the best doctors there are and you know that they will do everything possible and more. Is there anybody you want me or Craig to call for you?" she offered with a warning look at Brice, letting him know she was expecting him to offer more help than his half-hearted attempt at comforting Roy.
"Now this is something I can handle," Brice thought to himself. He was more than happy be doing something worthwhile. "Sure, Roy, do you want me to call Captain Stanley and let him know the situation?"
Roy looked up and nodded, not quite ready to trust himself to speak.
Alica, looked over and smiled and winked at Brice, approving now of the way he was willing to help out his friend.
Brice started to blush and backed out of the room, stammering, "Ummm, I'll, umm....go out here and call," as he turned and rushed out of the room.
Roy looked over at him, grinning slightly, shaking his head, "I never thought I'd see the day when Brice got tongue-tied," looking over at Alica. "By the way, thanks. I just needed to let off some steam," he said grinning sheepishly at her.
Alica laughed, "Hey, don't worry about it.I understand. And, as for Craig, you haven't seen anything. We dated for awhile back in school and you should have seen him then. He was about the shyest person I ever met, but he was a great guy even then," she said, blushing this time herself.
Roy smiled at her, "Yeah, Brice is definitely one of a kind." He stood up and started pacing around the room, speaking more to himself than anyone "I wonder what is taking so long, maybe I better go check and see what is going on," he said reaching for the door.
Alica intercepted him, "I know you're worried, but you need to wait here. They'll come and tell you something just as soon as they can."
Just then, Dr. Early and Dr. Brackett came into the room.
