Nine........,
"Roy," Dr. Brackett continued. "There's another complication we have to deal with."
Roy looked at Dr. Brackett, fearing the worst.
"Roy, Joanne is pregnant. Did you know?"
Roy looked confused and shook his head. "No, Doc, that can't be. I've had a vasectomy."
"Well, even vasectomies aren't 100% foolproof. These things happen."
Roy sat, numbed by all the information his mind was trying to process.

Dixie stood outside Joanne's room, unseen by her visitor. She heard Johnny's words, "...I miss you. Please wake up....I need you to help me find me...find US..."
I'm glad I talked Roy into going home for a couple hours. Joanne.... just what's going on between you and Johnny? Then she placed her hand on her own abdomen. I've got a dilemma of my own to think about.
"Dixie?" a voice startled her.
"Oh, hi, Kent."
Kent threw his head in the direction of Johnny and Joanne. "I've got half the hospital out searching for him," he said, indicating Johnny. "When did you find him?"
"I just got here a few minutes ago.... I thought I'd let him finish his visit."
Kent nodded. Dixie felt his hand on her shoulder, causing her body to tingle. Don't let him get to you!
"Johnny looks tired, we'd better get him back to bed. Why don't you take him to his room, and after I check on Joanne I'll be in to see him," Kent said.
Dixie nodded and entered the room. She hated seeing Johnny in so much pain. He looked so lost and confused.
"I--I had to see her," Johnny stammered upon seeing Dixie. "I don't know why. But I remember her."
"She's your partner's wife. You spend a lot of time with them," Dixie explained. I hope that's all it is.
"Them?"
"Yes, with Roy, Joanne, and the kids. They're like family to you."
Johnny nodded. If I could only remember. He suddenly felt tired and weak.
"Let's get you back to bed, Johnny. You shouldn't be walking around just yet." Dixie ushered the man out of the room and into a wheelchair.

Alica never felt so relieved in all her life as she did when she saw Dixie pushing a wheelchair with Johnny in it. "Oh, thank goodness," she said as she attempted to take over for Dixie.
"I'll get him settled," Dixie said curtly. "You need to keep a closer eye on your patients, Miss Lane. He should not be on his feet under any circumstances."
"Yes, Miss McCall, I won't let him out of my sight again," Alica promised. She held open the door to Johnny's room.
After Dixie left, she stood by Johnny's bed, watching him as he slept. She brushed a lock of hair on his forehead, noticing the silky texture. She stared at his face, as if seeing him for the first time. You wanted me to notice you, Johnny Gage... well... I am noticing you now. How could I have been so blind?
