33.......,
Roy burst into Joanne's room. "What's the matter?" He stared anxiously at Joanne, who smiled at waved weakly at her husband.
Dr. Williams looked up from Joanne's bedside. "She had a little spell of lightheadedness, and fainted." He examined the sheet of paper attached to a metal clipboard that hung at the bottom of the bed. "Everything looks okay. I think it's just because she's been on bedrest for a while, and had some shocking news."
"The virus, are you okay? I've been so worried about you!" Joanne paused for a moment, her expression turning somber. "Is Johnny really...gone?"
"I'm fine," Roy smiled, "thanks to Dr. Brackett. Now that they know how to treat it, Dr. Early and Brice should be just fine. Johnny's back now. Alicia kidnapped him, but Dr. Lambert and Marco were able to rescue him. He's back in his room, and I'm going to check on him in a few minutes.." Roy looked at Dr. Williams. "Can I have a few moments alone with my wife? I have some news."
"What's wrong?" Joanne asked, concern evident in her voice.
"Fine, Mr. DeSoto." Dr. Williams turned to Betty. "I'll leave some orders at the desk for her." The doctor smiled at Joanne. "So far, things are progressing well. But, I want to keep an eye on your blood pressure, since you are a little older, and you've had these injuries, your pregnancy is a higher risk than others. I see no reason you can't deliver a healthy baby. But, I want you to take it easy. Get up slowly, and have Betty here take you for a walk a little later. Okay?"
"Yes, Doctor," Joanne smiled patiently as the doctor brushed past Roy and left the room.
Betty smiled. "Let me know if you need anything." She patted Roy on the shoulder as she left the room.
"I've missed you terribly!" Joanne held her arms out to Roy
"Me too," Roy crossed the room quickly and scooped Joanne into his arms. He kissed her with smoldering passion, and let her rest against the pillows. He glanced at the floor.
"What's wrong?"
"It has to do with Johnny." Roy shook his head. "I called my mother. She was in the same accident that killed my father. I had forgotten all about it, not that she ever talked about it at all. The man in the photo can't be Johnny's real father."
"Oh, dear." Joanne stroked Roy's cheek. "What should we tell Johnny?"

Dr. Lambert glanced up. He watched as Alicia brushed Johnny's hair back, and lovingly leaned over the bed. He glanced at the nearby nightstand. He braced his chest with one hand, then started to crawl towards the nightstand. Dr. Lambert opened the bottom door, and quietly removed the heavy metal bedpan. He kept one eye on Alicia, as he crept back towards the wall.
Alicia finished unhooking the I.Vs and stared lovingly at Johnny's unconscious face. "Soon, darling, soon. We'll be together where no one can find us. No one can stand in the path of two people who were so obviously meant to be together like you and me. We'll spend eternity together. Our two souls will become one."
Dr. Lambert glanced at his bleeding chest, and started to pull himself up the wall. Dizziness overtook him, and he slid into a heap on the floor. The bedpan fell from his grasp.
"I'm so glad you told me that you felt the same way about me as I do about you," Alicia whispered into Johnny's ear. "I would have had to do the same thing to you that I did to that stupid Doctor. I really didn't want to." She glanced at the unconscious surgeon. "He's such a drip. They all are. But I took care of it. They won't get in the way of our love. You're...perfect." She kissed Johnny and stood up. "I must get a wheelchair." As Alicia turned towards the door, she stepped into the empty bedpan. She slipped and hit her head against the bed frame as she fell. She lay on the floor, unconscious. The gun clattered to the floor, and landed beneath the bed.
