............Part 32
Dr. Lambert turned at the sound of the door. "Alica! What... how??"
"You! Again!" Alica shrieked. "You won't spoiled my plans this time!" She pulled out the gun and fired, hitting the defenseless doctor square in the chest.
Replacing the weapon in her pocket, Alica turned her attentions to Johnny.
"Nothing will stop us from being together, my love," she cooed.
Johnny stared at the demented woman, then looked at the doctor on the floor.
Dr. Lambert was attempting to get up, and shook his head to prevent Johnny from giving him away.
"I'm so glad you came back for me," Johnny lied. "I was waiting for you."
Alica smiled and sat on the side of the bed, her full attention on the man of her dreams. "Oh, Darling! I'm so glad to hear you say that! I can make you well, just you wait and see. We'll go back to my cottage." She began unhooking the IV lines.
Johnny felt himself growing too weary to keep up the charade, and hoped that Dr. Lambert was fairing better than he was. "Okay," he whispered before succumbing to his weariness.

"Roy," Dr. Brackett said with a smile. "You're in the clear. You can go. You have two people very anxious to see you."
Roy sighed with relief over the good news. "Thanks, Doc, but I need to makea phone call first. Mind if I use your office? It's kinda personal."
"Be my guest."
"Thanks. I'll make the call quick. I'm anxious to speak to both Johnny and Joanne myself."
*****
Roy entered the office and picked up the phone. I have to find out for certain before I talk to Johnny about this.
A woman answered the phone.
"Hello, Mom?" Roy spoke into the receiver. "Um... Mom... I need to ask you a question... about my father... yeah... I know... it's just that something's come up... and... uh huh... okay... well... it has to do with a picture I have of him when I was just born... my partner was looking at the photo album... and he... he uh.... he said the man in the photo... my father...was HIS father too... Mom... you still there? Yeah...it's impossible? I know you told me he died in an accident... no I didn't remember that you were there... I'm sorry, Mom. Did my dad have a brother or a cousin or someone that might look like him?.... Oh?.... Yeah, I know it's an old picture. ....I know... okay, Mom. Thanks... I love you, too.... yeah... okay. I'll call you tonight from home. Okay. Bye."
Roy hung up the phone and sat for a moment collecting his thoughts. There's no way Johnny and I can be brothers... I have to tell him...
Roy exited the office to hear the intercom in the hospital. "Dr. Williams to room 406, stat."
"Oh my God! That's Joanne's room!" Roy's heart leapt as he headed toward the elevator.
