Roy DeSoto looked up at the sky visible from Joanne's hospital room. Brothers.....John's my brother.....and I thought he and Joanne were.... He lay his head on the window. Junior, please forgive me....

Brice slid out of the hospital with a heavy heart. He drove aimlessly for awhile before giving in to the emotions that ran through his mind. This time, they could not be held in.
He wept.
And thus he didn't see that he'd veered off the road and never saw the tree that his car wrapped around.

Hours passed slowly. The surgery was slow and tedious. Suddenly an alarm began to shriek. "What in the hell...." one of the surgeons gasped.
"Cardiac arrest?" They began to work feverishly on Johnny, to bring him back from the brink of death.
And the alarm kept shrieking.

Dwyer and Bellingham ran beside the gurney that carried Brice back into Rampart. It was taken over by nurses and Morton, who ran him into Trauma 4. They worked on him for a good fifteen minutes before Morton emerged to talk to the paramedics. "How is he, Doc?" Bellingham asked.
Morton sighed. "He'll live...."
"But...." Dwyer supplied.
".....but he's sustained head trauma and there is some spinal swelling."
Bellingham's eyes closed. "Bottom line it, Doc?"
Morton sighed. "Brice is -- at the moment -- paralysed from the pelvis down. And he is also deaf."
