Mike Stoker tossed and turned in his bunk. For the life of him he couldn't sleep. Perhaps it was the guilt of his secret affair that was tormenting him. He chuckled to himself, he didn't feel guilty at all. No one even suspected a thing. How could they? He never spoke about his personal life. Oh sure the guys at the station all had their women, and dates, but no one ever questioned Mike to see if he was dating happily. He resented it.
And now with all the things that had happened in the past few days, there wasn't a chance that anyone would want to hear about his troubles. Johnny was still in the hospital, Roy's family was also still in the hospital. Chet and that nurse seemed to be getting somewhere. Then there was Captain Stanley, who was having his own private affair with Nurse McCall. There was little that slipped past Stoker. He may be quiet, but he was no fool. And he resented that too. One day he would get even, with all of them.
Everyone had his or her secrets, but not from him. Not from Mike Stoker. If he wanted to he could black mail everyone. He just might have to use certain information that he possessed in order to get what he wanted. Rather someone he wanted, that one certain woman he loved. He would do anything for her. Some people might call it obsessed, but he liked to think of it as keeping his priorities straight.
As he thought about 'her', he heard her voice in his head...No one can know about us...Sweetheart, you know what would happen if they knew who you were having affair with, you would loose your job. I'll tell a small lie to keep it quiet...one day we will be together, as soon as I get my divorce. And then we can get that revenge that you so desire. Please, just a little longer.
He sighed. She was right, Joyce Stanley was always right. They had been having an affair since before the Cap and she split. But what even Joyce didn't know, was that Mike had his own fling with Nurse Walters one night about a year ago. When she moved out of the state, Mike thought it was over. He didn't know that she was now living a miserable life with their baby.
He smiled, as he drifted into sleep. Across the dorm, Captain Stanley shifted in his sleep, almost as if he knew that trouble was headed his way.
