............Part 15.......,

Brice felt in his bones that something wasn't right here, 'Why would Alica be taking a patient down the freight elevator?' Without thinking he dashed for the stairwell off to the right of the freight elevator. Racing down the stairs quickly he finally reached the landing.

The elevator doors opened, and there was his quarry in question with John Gage in a wheel chair. "Alica, what are you doing?!"

Alica's eyes narrowed, "Get out of my way Craig, I don't want to hurt you, but John needs to be with me."

Craig noticed the gleam in her eyes. He had seen the same gleam in her eyes back in high school. That was before she went over the edge, and her family had to have her committed. He had hoped she was better now, but seeing her like this he knew she was slowly slipping into her fantasy world again.

John moaned, the pain in his skull increasing, over riding the drug that Alica had injected into his IV port. He opened his eyes for a moment, then screaming in pain as he held his head in his hands, he slumped back into the wheelchair. Unconsciousness claiming him.

Roy could not believe his eyes. John's bed was empty, his IV was gone. Roy ran out of the room forgetting his anger at the younger man for a moment. He was looking for the nurse, Alica Lane who worked this floor. But the woman in question was gone. Then he noticed the paper lying on the desk that she had been doodling on.

Panic and fear rising up inside, he almost ran headlong into Kelly Brackett. "Where's the fire Roy?"

"Doc, Johnny's missing, and I think Alica Lane is the reason."

"Roy, we've got to find Johnny quickly, he's got a blood clot pressing on his brain..."

Roy did not need to hear more, he had to hurry and find Johnny before it was too late.

Brackett picked up the phone at the desk, "Security...."

Carol smiled at Chet, as he tried to find his voice to say something. Finally he squeaked out, "Hi." 'You're blowing it Chet,' he thought.

"Hi Chet," Carol responded, her voice sounded like music to Chet's ears.

"Uh... Carol would you like to go out sometime?" Chet finally found the courage to voice what he'd wanted to ask for a couple of months now since he first laid eyes on her.

Carol leaned over and kissed Chet on the cheek, "I'd love to," she replied throatily.

Chet was now on cloud nine.

Kent Donalson,Jr., wanted to know what was going on with Dixie and Hank Stanley, he removed his hand from the door knob. 'This would be an invasion of their privacy,' he argued with himself. 'Besides what we did was only one druken night. If she's in love with a fireman, so be it.'

He knew it was irrational for him to be jealous, but he still felt jealous all the same.

****

Joanne cried, "Johnny, you've got to tell Roy that he's your brother." But her cries were lost as there was no one in her room to hear.

"Johnny you've got to tell Roy."

"I wish I could Jo, I really wish I could. But if the department ever found up they would force us to be split up. Either Roy or myself would be sent to another station. I would hate for that to happen, and I would hate myself if it did happen."

"I guess I understand your reasons, Johnny, but you should tell Roy sometime," Joanne replied sadly.

****

Alica looked like a doe that had been caught in the headlights of an oncoming car. John's outburst frightened and stunned her enough so that Brice could grab the handles of the wheelchair. Pulling it out of Alica's grasp, he pressed the button sending the occupants of the freight elevator back up to John's floor.

Roy turned the corner to see Brice pushing Johnny. "Brice, what in the hell are you doing!"
